How It Works

Before the early 1600's, astronomers had few reliable means to study the stars and planets in our solar system. They depended on inaccurate tools that could not properly observe the cosmos. This all changed early in the 1600's with the development of a new devise called the "telescope".

Today the telescope is one of the most recognizable tools used by professional and amateur astronomers alike. Although telescopes have dramatically improved since the 1600's, the basic design remains the same. Although telescopes have been around for hundreds of years, people still don't know exactly how they work.
